The J.J. Lax Pen Company is the labor of love of one man, me (pictured at left), Joshua J. Lax, Esq.  I started collecting fountain pens  2009, and began restoration and nib work  a few years later as an outlet from my day job.  I attended Richard Binder's master class on fountain pen restoration which involved some nib work, have studied one-on-one with Mr. Binder and continue to have a tutorial relationship with him.  I am a founder of the Big Apple Pen Club.  ASA Pens of India utilized a design I helped create for the ASA Nauka.  I started in Brooklyn, New York, where our love of the antiquated is well documented.  In addition to serving the needs of individual collectors and pen users, I customize nibs for major pen brands around the world. In 2022, I won the first and only fountain pen nib competition in history.

There was a time when fountain pens were available with a wide variety of nibs.  Unfortunately, in our digital age the economics mean that pen companies offer very limited nib choices. I currently offer nib modification services, as well as some pen sales, and hope to offer pens with specialty nibs in the future. Look at our services for more information.
